Purpose of Disbarment or Suspension

The purpose of a proceeding for disbarment is to protect the administration of justice by requiring that those who exercise this important function be competent, honorable and reliable. It is immaterial that the complainant is in pari delicto because the purpose of disbarment proceedings is to purge the law profession of unworthy members. (Zaguirre vs. Castillo, 398 SCRA 658; 465 SCRA 520 (2005); Chan vs. Pizarro, 467 SCRA 1 [2005]).
