> No public land can be acquired by private persons without any grant, express or implied, from the government

> It is indispensable that there be a showing of a title from the State

> The law requires at least 30 years of open, continuous, exclusive, and notorious possession and occupation of agricultural lands of the public domain, under a bona fide claim of acquisition, immediately preceding the filing of the application for free patent
